Many people who unlock their iPhone 4 are stuck on baseband 4.11.08 because they updated to iOS 5 without preserving their baseband. Earlier versions of baseband were unlocked using Gevey Sim. But there is no Gevey Sim available for baseband 4.11.08 yet (Gevey makers are working on it). But a hacker named @hamzah_akram seems to be working on a baseband downgrade i.e. downgrading baseband 4.11.08 to 4.10.01, which is unlockable using Gevey Sim. The hacker is creating something called reactor which will make this possible. Also, Hamzah has a blog where he writes updates related to react0r and 04.11.08 baseband unlock. A tutorial to erase 04.11.08 baseband can be found on the blog, but it is for advanced users. Try it at your own risk.
Update: The famous iOS developer and iPhone-Dev team’s front man MuscleNerd left a very detailed comment on Hamzah Akram’s blog that how fake that guy’s unlock was and how he managed to pull it off. Here’s what MuscleNerd said:
“Sadly, this blog post is one of the many reasons you can tell this guy is a faker (a very bad faker, actually).
By design, CRC’s are designed to detect even the most subtle changes in a file. The CRC of both basebands above is identical: BB35A14A. Despite the time difference in the *file creation times*, the *file contents* are identical. The CRC shows that.
Simple conclusion: this particular faker is missing the most fundamental knowledge of programming. He’s a dumb scammer seeking attention.
This faker’s next move will be to either post a completely unrelated video showing nothing relevant, or saying he’s too busy “working for free” to make a 30-second video.
I really don’t understand what drives these fakers.”
